The programm FLOPPY81 controls the 3.5'' drive of the PC in such a way that disks can be read which are coming from a 1581-drive. The files (GEOS as well) can be decoded and saved as ASCII or PCX files. DOS files may be saved to the 1581-disk. The program cannot be started from disk as the programming of the controller is changed. It must be copied to the harddisk in order to be executable. The files FLOPPY81.EXE, BEF_LIST.FLD, DISK_816.HLP and DISK_816.HLE need to be in the same directory. Start with FLOPPY81. The program will then ask wether you want the texts in deutsch or in english. Click to the white letter to select. Except if your installation went to C:\FLOPPY81 you are then asked to enter an existing path for saving files. The file INSTR16E.TXT is the description and can be printed with TYPE INSTR16E.TXT>LPTx (x = number of the printerport) If the program does not work inspite of changing the defaults and of deactivating all TSRs, the type of the controller used in your PC is not fully compatible to the standard controllers. As the programming of the controller is the key issue of FLOPPY81 a change to the better is not possible.
